Born in Genoa, Italy, she moved to Rome where she studied singing and piano at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, graduating in 1956.Known for using her voice as an instrument rather than singing lyrics, defining the sound of 1960s-70s Italian soundtracks.

Besides Morricone, she worked extensively with composers Bruno Nicolai, Piero Piccioni, and Luis Bacalov.

She studied singing and piano in Rome, joining  Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni in the early 1960s before establishing her solo vocal career.
