2019 marks the 80th anniversary of Blue Note Records.Alfred Lion (April 21,1908  – February 2, 1987) was a Jewish German-born American record executive who co-founded Blue Note Records.Reid Miles (4 July 1927 – 2 February 1993) was an American graphic designer best known for his iconic work for Blue Note Records.Francis Wolff (April 6, 1907- March 8, 1972) was  a record company executive, photographer and producer.Blue Note began issuing LPs late in 1951 and their early covers, by various designers (including John Hermansader and Gil Melle), show that the company was looking for a style to match its new music.Blue Note Records came to an end, in spirit if not quite in name, when Alfred Lion sold the label to Liberty in 1966.John Coltrane he released twenty-five albums as a leader during his lifetime,Blue TrainGiant StepsMy Favorite Things, his Grammy-nominated, “humble offering” to God, A Love Supreme.
